I don’t buy into calamity. 

Yes, the economic situation is pretty challenging.  Nonprofits and government are getting a double whammy – more need and fewer resources. Each big event – bank bailout, announcement of new unemployment figures – produces a cascading effect that further depresses the economy and makes nonprofits and government timid and worried.

Hiding somewhere and waiting for the storm to pass isn’t a smart strategy.  This strange time of economic upheaval and priority shuffling is a unique time of opportunity.  When everything is up in the air is just the time to really climb out of the box and take chances.  Look at new partnerships, try new programs, reweave old funding sources and find new ones.

We can be smart or we can be scared.  Count me in the first group!
